The city of Nordhausen was bombed by the Americans on April 4, 1945, hitting the Bölcke Kaserne of the concentration camp by mistake, killing thousands of inmates. These are the dead inmates shown in the photograph. I do not believe that this fact is disputed by any serious historian. A French high-school teacher, Jean-Louis Berger, was fired from his job and fined about 30,000 dollars for pointing out this very simple fact. He won on appeal, but on technical points only.
