THE REVELATION OF THE METHOD, laid out right in front of us:

[An Old Watchmaker and a Fellow Conspirator are planning an assassination using a remotely-detonated explosive device]:

OLD WATCHMAKER:
It wasn't very difficult, but I still don't understand why is it necessary to expose our method?

FELLOW CONSPIRATOR:
All will be explained to you in time.

OLD WATCHMAKER:
No, now!  What can we gain by letting them know what we are up to, the enemy?

FELLOW CONSPIRATOR:
We add to their confusion, is what we stand to gain.  You see, they don't believe anything we say or do, or intend to do.  That's why we're able to carry out our plan.

From The Prisoner, episode "It's Your Funeral", starting at about 22:35 in.  The Prisoner is a wellspring of incisive ideas as regards the cryptocracy, the nature of privacy and the machinations of government.  Having been produced by a major UK studio, no doubt the whole series was intended as a Revelation of the Method device all along.
